The following information has come to light about Frederick and Sarah Messing in the course of research on their family connections:

The family were of German extraction, Frederick (I) and Susannah Messing being the children of Nicholas Jacob Christopher and Sophia Maria Messing, of Hesse-Cassel (1739 Naturalization Act of Susannah Hubert, 12 Geo. II c.15).

Frederick (II), son of Frederick (I) and Mary Messing, bapt 9th April 1726, St Anne, Soho

Frederick (II) Messing = Sarah le Febone, 26th Dec 1752, London, St. Andrew by the Wardrobe. George Thomas, son of Frederick (II) & Sarah, bapt 22 July 1759, St Anne, Soho; other baptisms not found

Will of Frederick (II) Messing (PRO PROB 11/952, f.388) dated 16th Sept 1769, proved 15th Nov 1769. Of St Ann within the Liberty of Westminster, Stationer to His Majesty, wife Sarah, children Frederick James, John Christian, Mary Martha; Trustees: brother in law John Copley of York St, Covent Garden, linen draper; Thomas Buross, surgeon of St Ann; Abraham Ordesioff of Kensington, goldsmith. Owns property in Stepney. All property to trustees for life of wife, then to children.

Will of Sarah Messing (PRO PROB 11/1050, f.63) Dated 8 Dec 1778, proved 3 Feb 1779, of Kennington, Lambeth, widow. Children, as last.

Frederick James Messing = Penelope Clark, 10 March 1781, St Marylebone.

Mother of Frederick is Mary Messing, will (PRO PROB 11/1134, f.475), 1785. Names grandson Frederick James, and also sisters Isabella Lampe, Mrs (Cecilia) Arne, Mrs (Hester) Jones. These are the noted Misses Young (New Grove Dictionary of Music sub Young family), singers of the mid-18th century; Mary is therefore presumably another daughter of Charles Young, organist, their father.

A further marriage, Mary Magdalen Messing = Samuel Gottlieb Goodman, 7th Sept 1723, St James, Westminster is probably a sister of Frederick (I).

Susannah Messing = Michael Hubert (baptised Michel Alexandre Hubert), 25 Nov 1735, St John Baptist, Clerkenwell. Confirmed to be sister of Frederick (I) by court case Messing v Hubert (PRO C11/2198/19), in which he sues her for her maintenance prior to her marriage
