To inspire students to achieve success through realizing their greatest academic, personal and career aspirations.

Who We Are

Leadership and Student Engagement is the name of our office. Supported by the Simpson Family, we are dedicated to providing all University of Calgary students with the opportunity to develop their leadership identities, and to providing all students with a well rounded university experience from first-year through to graduation and beyond.

First Year / Orientation

First Year / Orientation

Our Orientation and First-Year Experience program exists to ease the transition into post-secondary study, and to provide ongoing support to students during their first year on campus. Our programs include New Student Registration Assistance, Common Reading Program, First Year Council, My First Six Weeks and First-Year Experience Peer Mentors, among others.

Leadership

Leadership

Whether you are a new student to the University of Calgary or an experienced student, our Leadership programs have something to offer everyone, including 8-month programs, indendant workshops, conferences, and an award to financially support leadership opportunities on- and off-campus, across Canada/US and internationally.

Get Involved

Get Involved

We believe that students learn best when they are active and engaged. We offer a number of different volunteer and para-professional positions for students to become more involved on campus and to practice their leadership skills as Leadership Ambassadors, Orientation Leaders, and Peer Helpers, among others. We keep students informed of events happening on campus that they can attend, such as Frostbite and the Last Lecture series, and encourage them to document their leadership experiences in their Co-Curricular Record.

OUR VISION

Leadership and Student Engagement is a place of belonging for all students. The office acts as a hub to connect students interested in developing to their full potential, and in enhancing and complementing their academic learning experience.

We strive to engage and inspire University of Calgary students to become involved in meaningful learning and development opportunities that are designed to support a well-rounded university experience, from their first year through to graduation.

Our programs are grounded in innovative learning, teaching, and collaboration with multiple partners on and off-campus. The environment of the office is one that fosters an atmosphere where students can take risks, learn from their mistakes, and benefit through experiential learning.
