The Administrative Email & Calendar service is also available to other individuals provided they are authorized by an appropriate University staff or faculty member. A UCIT Email account is subject to revocation if it determined that the Appropriate Use Policy has been violated.

UCIT Account Expiry

Staff, faculty, and researcher accounts will expire 60 days after the account holder’s last day of employment if resignation is voluntary, or immediately if the account holder is terminated.

Accounts are not expired between May 1 and August 30 except in the case of terminations.

There is no charge to eligible end-users for use of the Administrative Email & Calendar service. All costs for the licensing and hardware are paid from the base budget of IT.

Additional Fees

• Adding the U of C BlackBerry Exchange Service (BES) to a Microsoft Exchange mailbox. Cost for the BES service TBD.

The Edge email system is monitored for spam in an attempt to ensure that only legitimate email (spam and virus free) is delivered to Exchange Messaging end-user inboxes. Email that meets the criteria laid out by blacklists is blocked outright from arriving in end-user inboxes. Email that is suspected as spam is delivered with a tag “Spam?” added to the subject line.

Virus control is managed by MailScanner software interfaced with McAfee Virus control software. Messages that are suspected of having or potentially having a virus or malware are either dropped or quarantined, with the availability for requesting from quarantine up to 30 days.
