Your IT Account will give you access to a variety of computing services on campus, including:
An IT Account is not necessary to access the myUofC Portal, although it is required for some services within the portal, such as Webmail.
The U of C community members listed below are eligible for a UCIT account. There are different procedures for obtaining an account that are dependent on your role at the U of C.
Students enrolled in a degree program must self-register using the web-based Accounts Registration System. New students are eligible for an account the day after they have registered in their first course.
Academic Staff, including sessionals, must self-register using the web-based Accounts Registration System. The system requires registrants to know their University of Calgary ID number (UCID).
Support & MAPS Staff must self-register using the web-based Accounts Registration System. The system requires registrants to know their University of Calgary ID number (UCID).
Temporary Support & MAPS Staff must first obtain a University of Calgary ID number (UCID) from Human Resources. They must then fill out both pages of the IT Account Application Form, have it signed by their department head, and then send it to the IT Support Centre, 7th floor of Math Sciences.
Retirees and Emeritii may continue to use their existing IT account indefinitely. If they did not have an IT account before retirement they may self-register using the web-based Accounts Registration System. The system requires them to know their University of Calgary ID number (UCID).
Other individuals, such as visiting scholars, must then fill out both pages of the IT Account Application Form, have it signed by a full-time faculty member or department head, and then send it to the IT Support Centre, 7th floor of Math Sciences.
Recognized campus organizations may apply for an account by filling out both pages of the IT Account Application Form and then sending it to the IT Support Centre accompanied by a letter that specifies the reason for the account, the individual responsible for the account (this person must have a UCID), the people that will be using the account, a suggested name for the account (8 characters or less, e.g., the Underwater Basket Weaving Society might request an account named uwbweave) and how long the account is needed.
Completed and signed application forms and supporting documentation may be mailed or faxed to the IT Support Centre. Our fax number is (403) 282-9199.
For those in the Faculty of Medicine, forms and supporting documentation can be sent to the MedIT Help Desk, Health Sciences Building room G389.
Students, staff, and faculty can self-register for a IT Account by visiting the Accounts Registration system. Please note, you must AGREE to the terms of the Computing Services Agreement before you can continue with the registration process.
As part of the IT Account registration process, you will be assigned a IT username. This, along with the associated password, identifies you to all IT services.
IT usernames are up to 8 characters long, and are usually composed of a portion of your surname and one or more of your first initials. For example, Charles Emerson Winchester might be assigned an IT username of 'winchesc,' or 'cewinche'.
The IT username is not the same thing as your "eID". The latter is used to identify you to the myUofC Portal.
You will be asked to choose a password during the process of registering for a IT Account. IT recommends changing your password regularly and to avoid reusing old passwords. You can change it at any time by using the Password Change web utility.
If you forget your password (or your username), you can recover it online by visiting the Account Recovery web utility. For further password recovery assistance, feel free to contact:
If you are unable to come to campus then you must fax a copy of your University ID card or your driver's license to (403) 282-9199, with a cover sheet requesting a password reset. If the cover sheet provides an alternate e-mail address, we will e-mail your new password to you, otherwise you must phone (403) 220-5555 to obtain it.
Our staff cannot tell you what your password is (it is technically impossible). They can only change it to a new, randomly selected password. It is a good idea to immediately change the new password to something you have chosen yourself.
To manage your account, such as changing your password, visit the IT Utilities/Tools website.
When you register for an UCIT computing account, you agree to abide by the University Computing Policy. The policy basically states that you will use University resources for only academic or University business purposes, and that you will not use the e-mail system in any way that harms the University or anyone else.
The policy also states that sharing your account with anyone else is prohibited. If you are discovered sharing your account, it will be suspended.
