University of Calgary

About

Information Technologies (IT), the central IT department at the University of Calgary, has a wide range of responsibilities. From providing the campus network services to ensuring critical day-to-day business operations, IT focuses on the following three areas that are guided by the University of Calgary's Academic Plan: Learning, Research, and Administration.

IT works in partnership with the University's faculty, students, and staff to maximize the value of information technology to their work.

There are eight strategic themes that guide our activities:

  1. Learning - providing integrated services to support the teaching and learning goals of the institution.
  2. Research support - providing support services for researchers at the U of C and partner institutions throughout Canada.
  3. Administrative support - providing integrated services to support campus administrative systems, enabling smooth university operations.
  4. Service orientation - understanding the work and goals of the U of C community and improve our focus on providing first class service.
  5. Technological innovation and leadership - testing out new innovations and generating initiatives that will lead to the next generation of IT services.
  6. Communication - improving the flow of information within IT and the U of C community: engaging them in IT needs and priorities, increasing the visibility and benefits of IT services, creating the identity of IT as an effective service organization.
  7. Excellence in project execution and management - providing on schedule, on budget delivery of hardware and software systems that meet or exceed client expectations.
  8. Collaboration - working with IT users and other IT departments on campus to foster a collaborative environment in which all above strategic themes may thrive.
