Faculty Members
Maintaining academic integrity is a key role of a faculty member.
This can be achieved through teaching, assignments, examinations, and discussions.
Guiding students
- Understand the rules and procedures - talk about them with your students, and enforce them.
- Ensure students understand your expectations.
- Maintain continuity and consistency in your assessment of students’ work.
- Refer students to the resouces on the Student Page.
- Teach your students the basics of referencing (don't assume they already know) and provide them with resources and guidelines.
- Be aware of sites that sell papers online (see the right panel for links).
Plagiarism and Referencing are key areas of concern for both students and faculty. While there are those who intentionally break the rules, most infractions occur through lack of knowledge. Find tips and services to help avoid problems in this area by clicking on the links.
The University of Calgary has very strict guidelines for honesty in academics. Penalties can range from failure to expulsion. You can read more by going to the policies and procedures site.
