UCalgary student wins prestigious award for C. difficile abstract

As a graduate student Jeff Ng has been working in a University of Calgary lab for only 18 months, but he has already received several awards in recognition of his research.  He was recently honoured as the only Canadian to win one of ten prestigious student abstract awards at the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) meeting. And locally he won the Shaffer Research Award for the top MSc presentation.

Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Research Excellence Award

This years recipient of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) Research Excellence Award is Dr. Derek McKay, a Professor in the department and member of the Gastrointestinal Research Group.  Dr. McKay, received the award at the annual meeting of the CAG in Banff at the end of February, where he presented a lecture entitled "The Epithelial Barrier and Digestive Health: Input from Cytokines and Bacteria"

In receiving this award Dr. McKay joins a distinguished list of previous winners.  Of the 17 winners of this award, six have gone to faculty members at the University of Calgary: Dr. Andre Buret (2007), Dr. Keith Sharkey (2006), Dr. Kris Chadee (2005), Dr. Jon Meddings (2004), and Dr. John Wallace (1998).
