Values

  1. Athlete Development

At the Dinos Club, winning medals and taking home trophies is secondary to long term athlete development. The Dinos program offers training as the priority. We offer high performance training methods and elite competition within each practice. We develop and train the following areas: technical and tactical skills, knowledge of the game, intensified physical, mental and nutritional training.

  1. Role Modeling

Our goal is to prepare athletes for success in both sport and life. Our coaches invest in more than just volleyball skills including teaching our athletes to cope with pressure, build confidence, balance multiple commitments, strive for academic success and live a life of integrity.

  1. Post Secondary

The Dinos Club is dedicated to finding a post-secondary home for every athlete in our system by educating and informing them on the recruiting process. Our club coaches have extensive knowledge, experience and relationships with the Canadian post-secondary educational institutions. Find more information on post-secondary volleyball here.

Dinos Facts

Team Size - Our typical team size is 12 athletes. We carry smaller teams so that we can ensure an excellent opportunity for every Dino athlete to play an integral role on their team and benefit from quality training experiences.

Quality Resources - We have only 5 teams in our club (15U, 16U, 17U, 18U and 21U). This fact is important in terms of the quality of our program. We are fortunate to have significant resources through our corporate sponsors and our partnership with the University of Calgary Dinos. With just five teams, we can ensure that our resources are focused on providing the best possible opportunities for our athletes. The results of our focused resources can be seen in the quality of our coaches, training facility and equipment, competitive opportunities, uniform/gear package, etc...

Recruiting and Team Formation - Selection of our teams in done by invitation only and is based on a year-round athlete evaluation and recruitment model. Among the greatest benefits of this system is the fact that athletes considering the Dinos are able to make an early decision about the upcoming club season - if the Dino club is not the right place for you, you'll still have lots of time to find another great opportunity to play with another club in the Calgary area.

We do, however, hold a two-day open try-out at the beginning of December to any athlete that would like to compete for a spot on a Dinos team. It is important to have a full understanding that 10-12 athletes have already pre-committed to the team. If any athlete is able to compete at the level of the recruited players, then we will gladly add them to our roster. Select "Hunting for Dinos" from the menu bar for more information on how to contact us and how to be evaluated for one of the positions in our program.

Private Training Facility - We have unlimited access to our own training facility, that is shared among just five teams. This means that our training times are flexible and can be tailor made to suit each individual team. It also means that our athletes have the opportunity to receive additional reps and attend drop-ins on a regular basis (at no additional charge).

21U Training Opportunity - Each season a small number of 18U athletes have the opportunity to 'play-up' with the 21U team. In doing so, these athletes get the opportunity to play with and against CIS and CCAA athletes, while still in high school - an unbelievable opportunity to experience the next level.

In short, we feel that the Dino Women's Volleyball Club age-class teams are the best elite development opportunity available in the Calgary area. Unfortunately, this opportunity is available to a total of just 50 athletes. We recognize this limitation of our club and wholeheartedly support and value the contribution of other volleyball clubs in the Calgary area. We do not see our club in competition with other clubs. Rather, our intent is to offer a unique and very elite development opportunity to a small number of exceptional individuals that we can help to move to the next level. If you feel this is the type of opportunity that you are looking for, please select 'Hunting for Dinos' from the menu bar and contact us today!
