Dr. Latter interned at the University Hospital in Edmonton and was in general practice in Sherwood Park, Alberta. In 1974, Dr. Latter commenced his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at McMaster University, obtaining his FRCPC in 1978. He was at the University of Ottawa from 1980 to 1998. During this time he received a Masters in Public Administration (Health Policy) from Queen’s University in 1996. He was Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Winnipeg from 1998 to 2002 at which time he moved to Calgary, Alberta.
Clinically, Dr. Latter primarily works as a pediatric physiatrist but has always been involved in a young adult clinic, transitioning young people from the paediatric world to the adult world.
Dr. Latter has also been involved in collaborative research. Presently, his main projects are with injury prevention and playground surfaces and several initiatives regarding brain injury in children.
In addition to his clinical and research background, Dr. Latter has always had a strong interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, encompassing teaching and administrative involvement. He has been a residency training program director in Ottawa and was instrumental in commencing the residency training program in Calgary in 2004.
In January 2009, Dr. Latter was appointed to the Premier’s Council on the Status of People with Disabilities for the province of Alberta.
