Content Guidelines

UThisWeek is a newsletter sent to continuing students at the University of Calgary. Content is driven by key university messages of importance to undergraduate students, for example, Enrolment Services' major dates and deadlines (e.g., last day to pay fees, register, add/withdraw from courses, etc.). Other content must have a broad appeal to the general undergraduate student body, such as:

  • University-wide news/information, for example, executive announcements/messages (from the president, provost, etc.).
  • General news regarding students, faculty, staff or departments, including kudos for awards, new websites, services, initiatives, etc.
  • Notices regarding other select events, workshops and services affecting undergraduate students (for example, Campus Recreation)

Consider Your Student Audience

Ensure your submission is:

  • Relevant to the undergraduate student body.
  • Purposeful, clear, accurate, timely and up-to-date.
  • Written in student-friendly language - administrative/institutional speak should be avoided.
  • Maximum: 100 words per submission.
  • If applicable, please include the link to where the content originally lives on the website. Be sure to submit the accurate URL and ensure the referenced webpage is up-to-date.
  • If there is relevant artwork (i.e. photo, graphic, etc.), please submit with content in JPG format.
  • UThisWeek content should follow the university's writing style guide.

NOTE: The editors of UThisWeek reserve the right to edit copy submitted. Copy is to be included at the discretion of the editors.

Submission Procedures

  • Please submit content for publication via the online form.
  • Please ensure all fields are complete before submission.

NOTE: When possible, please do not submit the same content for multiple issues of UThisWeek. If necessary, please submit content via the online form for each issue.

Submission Deadlines

The deadline for submission for the student newsletter is 12:00 p.m. the day prior to the desired week for publication, although the student newsletter's capacity may be reached at any time, in which case the item may be included the next possible week or included on the current students website. It is recommended that items be submitted one or two days prior to the deadline. Priority will be given to submissions that have a broad institutional appeal.
