By mid-term, you've probably formulated some opinions about how your term is going... Do you like your classes? Did you do as well in your midterms as you had hoped? Will you continue in your program into next term? A lot of important questions start to surface and sometimes it's hard to face the answers that may come to us!
November and March are good times to take a "reality check" to see if you're on the right track, and if you aren't sure, it's a good time to become aware of resources that can help you, depending on your circumstances. Here are some common scenarios facing students at this time, and resources that can help you!
*If you're saying to yourself, "I think I'm in the wrong program, but don't know what to pursue instead", there are various resources that may be important to access. The Counselling Centre offers a Career Drop-In Clinic, and Career Planning Workshops that can help you to learn more about yourself and what you're looking for in an educational program and ultimately in an occupation.
*If your thought is, "I like my program, but I'm struggling, and I need to pull my grades up!" there are various ways to get assistance. Have you tried speaking to the Professor or TA to clarify things that you don't understand? Are tutorials available for you to attend? At the Counselling Centre, we offer Academic Success Workshops to help you to deal with procrastination, manage your stress and exam anxiety, write multiple-choice tests, and other issues affecting students. You can also book an appointment to get help through the Academic Clinic.
If you're wondering, "How will dropping courses/ changing majors/ making other changes to my timetable affect my program?" this is a question to ask an Academic Advisor in your faculty.
There are a lot of resources on campus and in the Counselling Centre that can help you face mid-term reality, and you're not alone! We're happy to help you, or to direct you to the resources that you need!
