Career/Life Planning Workshops

Workshops are offered by request to any interested campus groups.

The Career/Life Planning Workshops have been designed to assist you in the career decision-making process and in developing the career planning skills you will need for a successful future.

Please register and complete testing (if required) at least one week in advance of the workshop start date, by dropping in to MSC 370, Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. All workshops are held in the offices of the Counselling Centre, MSC 370, unless otherwise indicated.

Choosing a Major

University of Calgary students are faced with a variety of options regarding their future career paths, and often feel they have little information regarding how to go about making an important educational decision such as choosing their major. In this workshop series, you will learn about the various aspects of career and lifestyle planning and how to apply this information to your own decision-making process of choosing a major. You are encouraged to attend all four parts of the workshop but it is also possible to register for just one or two. The cost of the workbook for this series is $12.00. The cost for the two tests (MBTI & Strong Interest Inventory) is $50.00. The Total cost for the Workbooks and Testing is $62.00.

Start your career planning process, explore your ideal lifestyle and assess your most important career values.

Part II: Discover Your Personality Style and Skills

Discover personality type with the help of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and assess your marketable skills. Testing Fee: $25.00 Note: testing must be completed one week prior to the start of the workshop.

Part III: Discover Your Skills and Talents

Learn about your interests and occupational options with the Strong Interest Inventory and how to start doing research. Testing Fee: $25.00

Note: testing must be completed one week prior to the start of the workshop

Part IV: Uncover Your Options

Research future trends, effectively narrow down your options and learn the next steps in planning your career!

Life After Graduation

As students approach the end of their university degree, they face a major decision regarding what they will do once they graduate. This workshop is for current University of Calgary students who are in their later years of their program and are ready to consider their occupational and/or educational options once they complete their current degree. Students are encouraged to attend all four parts of the workshop but it is also possible to register for just one or two. The cost of the workbook for this series is $12.00. The cost for the two tests (MBTI & Strong Interest Inventory ) is $50.00. The Total cost for the Workbook and Testing is $62.00.

Life After Grad School

Graduate students need to decide "where to next" after grad school - academia or the real world? This interactive session introduces aspects of the career decision-making process for graduate students as they contemplate life after graduation. Students are encouraged to attend all four parts of the workshop but it is also possible to register for just one or two. The cost of the workbook for this series is $12. The cost for the two tests (MBTI & Strong Interest Inventory) is $50. The Total costs for the Workbook and Testing is $62.00
