Scholarships and Financial Support

Funding is an important aspect of graduate studies, including living expenses, tuition and project support. Keep in mind:

  • funding has become increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly for MSc students and first year PhD students;
  • national funding awards are generally restricted to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents; and
  • students will likely need to fund themselves, particularly during their first year.

Even if students expect to be self-supporting, applying for grants is a good opportunity to learn the competencies required around grantsmanship. In addition, having a history of successful grants will strengthen future applications when you are ready to apply for salary and operating grants.
