Visiting Speaker
Professor Frieder Jäkle, Department of Chemistry, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey.
will present a seminar entitled:
"Organoborane polymers: from luminescent materials to self-assembled nanostructures"
Among main group organic - inorganic hybrid polymers, those involving Group 14 and Group 15 elements have received tremendous attention over the past decades, with silicones, polysilanes, and polyphosphazenes among the most thoroughly studied polymeric materials. Polymers that contain Group 13 elements are relatively less well established, despite potentially intriguing properties associated with the electron-deficient nature of tri-coordinate Group 13 species.
The first part of this talk will focus on our efforts at incorporating boron into conjugated polymeric materials and how this can lead to unusual optical and electronic properties that are of interest for sensory and optoelectronic device applications.1 In the second part, the development of nano-structured organoboron materials, which are generated by self-assembly of organoborane block copolymers will be discussed.2
