Research interests

Dr. Swaddle's research involves mainly inorganic solution chemistry, particularly with regard to reaction kinetics and mechanisms. Current areas of interest include:

  • The effects of high pressures
  • Electrochemical kinetics
  • The aqueous chemistry of aluminum and silicates
  • Catalysis of ionic reactions by counterions
  • The biomedical chemistry of metal ions and silica
  • Reaction mechanisms in aqueous geochemistry
  • Hydrothermal chemistry

Teaching interests

Dr. Swaddle retired from formal teaching in 2002, but has taught inorganic, physical, nuclear and engineering chemistry at levels ranging from freshman to graduate. He is the author of the textbooks "Applied Inorganic Chemistry" (University of Calgary Press, 1990) and "Inorganic Chemistry: An Industrial and Environmental Perspective" (Academic Press, 1997).

He no longer accepts graduate students or Post Doctoral Fellows.
