New Student Orientation & Workshops

The department looks forward each year to welcoming new students and is committed to providing information and assistance to facilitate productive and successful graduate programs. Part of that commitment includes numerous workshops and orientations. These sessions, all held in the first week in September, are:

Department of Chemistry Graduate Student Orientation

This one to two hour meeting covers registration, course requirements, teaching, stipend, scholarships, and answers all questions associated with getting started. We also provide information on the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Graduate Students' Association

Graduate Teaching Workshop

This full day workshop covers the role of a GAT (graduate assistant teaching – it’s how you make some of your money as a grad student) including first time teaching concerns, marking and grading tips, evaluations, presentations etc.

Safety Workshop

This half day session covers everything you need to know about laboratory safety. The workshop is organized and hosted by the Faculty of Science safety coordinator.
