TITLE:                    Silica Aerogel: A miracle material for the 21st century

ABSTRACT:            Aerogels are one of the lightest solids in the world. They exhibit very unusual physical and chemical properties, such as low thermal conductivity (~ 10-2 Wm-1K-1), low refractive index (~ 1), and very high surface area (100-1600 m2g-1).1 Aerogels are being used for applications in super thermal insulation, space dust capture, waste management, biomedicine, and sensors. This talk will cover a general overview of silica aerogels and their specific application as a drug delivery system.
