TITLE:                    “Transition-Metal Free” Cross Coupling Reactions

ABSTRACT:           

The publication of new “transition-metal free” alternatives to known metal catalyzed reactions has become somewhat of a trend in recent organic chemistry literature.¹ However, there are many rigorous steps that must be taken to ensure that the claim of “transition-metal free” is legitimate. This presentation will begin by telling the story of the first of such claims, and follow by presenting several recent examples of “transition-metal free” coupling reactions and the investigation into their mechanisms.
