Brain Tumor Scientists or Clinician Scientists in Cancer Research
The Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute invites applications for two full-time positions at the Assistant Professor level, or higher, at the University of Calgary. These positions offer an outstanding opportunity to establish an independent research program within a vibrant and diverse research environment. The successful candidates will have attractive start-up packages but will be expected to apply for competitive research support from provincial and national agencies to enhance their research programs. While duties include teaching and graduate student supervision, the candidates will have 75% protected time for research. An appointment will be granted in an appropriate academic department of the Faculty of Medicine in Calgary.
The Institute includes members with strengths in signal transduction, cell cycle control, chromatin modification, cancer stem cell biology, cellular aging, functional genomics, oncolytic viruses, tumour cell invasion, DNA repair, molecular imaging and molecular mechanisms of resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The Institute has extensive infrastructure including facilities for mass spectrometry, microarray, hybridoma, human and animal imaging, FACS analysis and embryonic stem cells and transgenics. This recruitment is directed to the further development of the Clark Smith Brain Tumor Center, one of the major programs of the Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute. Calgary is a vibrant, multicultural city (population ~1,000,000) near the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park and Lake Louise. See our website http://www.sacri.ucalgary.ca/, and also the Clark Smith Brain Tumor Center's website www.ucalgary.ca/braintumor for more information.
The successful candidates will have postdoctoral experience and a strong publication record. Applications from individuals with interests in any area of basic research potentially applicable to brain cancer, including the broad areas of cell biology, cellular signaling, tumor invasion, or angiogenesis, will be considered. Individuals with a strong record in translational research will also be considered. Applications from individuals working with human tumor tissues, molecular profiling or mouse models of tumors are especially welcome.
Qualifications include a PhD and/or MD and a proven record of excellence in research. Eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta is required if the individual will be providing patient care.
