DR. HANS J. VOGEL

Ph.D. (Alberta) - Professor, Department of Biological Sciences and Adjunct Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology; Director, Bio-NMR Facility; AHFMR  Scientist.

Research Interests :

  • 1) Protein-protein interactions of regulatory calcium-binding proteins in mammals and plants are studied by NMR spectroscopy and biophysical methods.
  • 2) Structural and dynamic studies of bacterial iron uptake and fatty acid biosynthesis as potential targets for the development of new classes of antibiotics.
  • 3) Mechanism of action of antimicrobial peptides and host defense proteins. Development of novel peptide- or protein-based bactericidal and bacteriostatic compounds.
  • 4) Metabolomics studies of infectious and inflammatory diseases; studies of antibiotic action and sepsis in animal models and humans.
