As we board our plane at 8 am New York time, the wait encourages reflection of the experience. Each of us has had our own version of the trip framed in our way.
The culture shock of New York City is marginal compared to the boom cycle of Calgary that we just departed from. Viewing the Rocky Mountains on the horizon outside the window of our plane in comparison to the view of the New York City skyline makes one appreciate the space and the cleanliness of Calgary.
Whatever the experience of New York City has given to the student, it does make you appreciate what you have at home and what there is to experience outside of your respective comfort zone.
I highly recommend travel as a part of the post secondary experience; not only do you make memories of a lifetime, the experience is one not to be missed, one that contributes to the cultural perspective of any student.
