Today has been the first day for our group to encounter any kind of precipitation. To be honest it is a nice relief from hiking through warm sun.
We have finished our tour through Lucerne, visiting its medieval wall and famous Lion Monument to commemorate Swiss Mercenaries that were killed for protecting the King during the French Revolution. The city core is extremely charming with Lake Lucerne and the Alps acting as a backdrop for waterside churches.
The city is currently working on installing spikes along the Reuss River in order to help prevent flooding. So far my favourite location, we decided as a group to squish into a small fondu restaurant and enjoyed a rather loud and boisterous dinner over wine and cheese fondu.
So far
I have had a chance to observe many public places in my own field
notebooks and have started to get used to the smaller scales and efficient
transport systems that stretch through each inner city. Today
was the first time we had to even use a local transit system (which equals burning
legs from lots of walking..though it is well worth it).
We have two days to discover Basel which is currently hosting an art festival
which I look forward to seeing. Hopefully the rain will not drain our
energy, it hasn't seemed to faze the locals from enjoying the streets.
