IntroductionI am an Assistant Professor for the Counselling Psychology program. I am also a Registered Psychologist. Prior to becoming an academic, I worked in the area of eating disorders in clinical, administrative/policy, co-coordinator and prevention positions. |
TeachingI have taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in areas including creating a working alliance, health psychology, research design, systemic community change, and master's level practicum courses. I teach in both the on-campus program and the on-line programs in our Division. In both forms of delivery, I am sure to use a combination of inquiry based and experiential activities as well as direct instruction methods. ResearchMy research interests focus on the prevention of weight-related issues. Current projects include the development and evaluation of health promotion resources for schools; examinations of media messages around food and appearance; investigation into the shared risk factors for obesity and eating disorders; exploring social justice as an organizing construct in advancing our understanding of eating disorders and obesity; and studying the interprofessional network of an emerging national obesity organization. ServiceMy service activities include interviews with the media, committee work on local, provincial and national bodies in the area of eating disorders (e.g. EMBODY, BIMED), presentation of my research to government and interest groups (e.g. CEDEN), and secretary/treasurer for counselling subsection of CPA. |
