William Patrick Kinsella (1932- )

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, and educated at the Universities of Victoria and Iowa, Kinsella became a professor at the University of Calgary. His novels include Shoeless Joe (1982) which was made into the movie "Field of Dreams" starring Kevin Costner in 1989. His collections of short stories, Dance Me Outside (all made into a movie), Scars, Born Indian, and the Mocassin Telegraph explore Aboriginal issues in Alberta from the perspective of Silas Ermineskin, Frank Fence-post and others residents of a reserve near Hobbema in southern Alberta.
