Anglican Missionaries

The Anglican Church, represented by missionaries working under the auspices of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), did not have a real presence in southern Alberta until the reservation period. Two men, Samuel Trivett and John William Tims, dominated the region’s missionary field. Trivett arrived at the Kainaiwa reserve in 1880 and, following Tims' arrival in the West in 1883, the Anglican Church opened a mission on the Siksika Reserve. Bishop McLean sent Trivett predominantly to "nullify" Catholic influence. Following nearly forty years of labour with few successes, the CMS officially withdrew from the field in 1920.
