U of C Boasts a New Collection
With the donation of 600 Oriental rugs, the Nickle Arts Museum is now home to the largest public collection of rugs in Canada. The rugs, which date from the 16th to the mid-20th century, are valued at $2.5 million. A $1.6 million cash donation accompanied the rugs. The generous gift was donated by Lloyd Erickson, a longtime collector and University of Alberta anatomy professor. Two New Programs Begin at U of C
Earlier this month, a new group of students attended their first day of classes in a new program unlike any other in the country. The inaugural class of the new Bachelor of Health Sciences Program got started on their four-year undergraduate degree, which is operated through the Faculty of Medicine.
Likewise, another group of students embarked on their new program through the Faculty of Engineering. Also designed to educate much-needed health professionals, the Biomedical Engineering Program welcomed 32 students in its inaugural year.

New Chaplains on Campus
To better meet the needs of all students at U of C, the chaplaincy team has grown by two members this fall. Rabbi Moshe Saks and Imam Mohammad I. Al-Nadvi will be representing the Jewish and Islamic faiths respectively. The Chaplain’s Centre team already has chaplains from the Baptist, Lutheran, United/Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, and Pentecostal faiths. Lutheran reverend Klaus Ohloff says he’s pleased to see the new members of the team and adds, “If we want to attract people [to the university] from all nationalities and religions, it’s important for us to be a multi-faith chapliancy.”
