Campus Fair Reviews Are In
Hosting its first open house in more than a decade, the Campus Fair on June 21 has garnered much praise and is being considered a success. More than 5,000 people turned out to discover and learn what the U of C has to offer the Calgary community every day of the year. Children and adults alike learned how to make slime, saw a Roman battle reenacted, took turns on the climbing wall, and found out how many germs can cling to your hands even after a good washing. Planning for next year's fair is already in the works. To see pictures of the day's events, go to http://www.ucalgary.ca/campusfair/pics.html.
Going 16,000 Feet Under the Sea

The impressive $15-million 3-D lab is the new Schlumberger iCentre in the Calgary Centre for Innovative Technology (CCIT) Building on campus. During the lab demo, a Schlumberger representative took the audience 16,000 feet below the North Sea. To read more, go to http://www.ucalgary.ca/gazette/june16-03/icentre.html.
Big Budget News
On June 20, the budget went to the Board of Governors. While this budget is a tough one, calling for a reduction of spending that equals $30 million over the next two years, key priorities, such as student scholarships and the library, are protected and will even receive additional funding.
