A New Home for the Career Centre
A new Career Centre has opened on campus. The 3,200-square-foot-space can be found in a key location -- across from the entrance of the Bookstore. The centre has nine meeting rooms for various purposes, including six for personal interviews with potential employers. It also has an area for researching career options and placement listings. Alumni have access to the facilities, as well as career counselling, an online job board and workshop discounts.
Raising Our Sights
Yesterday, President Harvey Weingarten presented the university's new four-year academic plan to staff and faculty. Raising Our Sights: Academic Plan 2002-2006 is designed to take U of C into the upper echelon of Canadian institutions. The plan aims to sharpen the university's emphasis on research excellence and enhance its reputation as a leading research university. Weingarten outlined the core areas for research on campus, including health and wellness, energy and environment, technologies and information, and understanding human behaviour.
New Research Chair in Israeli Studies
U of C announced this week it will be launching a Research Chair for Israeli Studies. The research chair will foster curriculum development in this area, building undergraduate and graduate programs in this increasingly popular field. It will also encourage research by the chair holder and other scholars regarding the importance of Israeli studies in both international relations and political, cultural, and religious history of Western civilization. The initiative is supported by the Kahanoff Foundation.
