Future Alumni Award

The Future Alumni Award was handed out for the first time in 2009. Recognizing a current, full-time student who demonstrates great potential for outstanding achievements in their career or contributions to their community, this award will honour student excellence with an eye on future personal and professional growth.

Alyx Nanji, BSW/BComm student, member of the class of 2012

At 21, Alyx has been celebrated as a “superhero” by his professors and fellow students. As founder of Calgary’s anti-gang movement, Stop the Beef, and regular Distress Centre volunteer, Alyx’s commitment to community is unparalleled. On campus, he revitalized the Faculty of Social Work’s student club and served as president of the International Business Students Association.

Rithesh Ram, MD/PhD candidate, Leaders in Medicine, Epidemiology

Rithesh Ram is an MD/PhD candidate and president of the medical class of 2012. As founding chair of the Community Health Sciences student executive and president of the Calgary Medical Students’ Association, Rithesh continually demonstrates his commitment to his profession, his university and his community.

Mark Blackwell, BComm student

A third-year student at the Haskayne School of Business, Mark is project chair of the Alberta Solar Decathlon Project and founder and president of the Institute of Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy Students’ Association. Mark was named one of Canada's Top 20 Under 20 by Youth in Motion in 2008, and was one of just five Canadian youth selected to participate in the 2007 World Energy Congress in Rome. Mark graduated with the class of 2011.
