2012 Arch Awards

Graduates from the University of Calgary are changing the world-from international peacekeeping to space exploration. The University of Calgary alumni family is 145,000 strong and the Arch Awards represents the highest honour given by the University of Calgary Alumni Association. Our three Arch Awards are: the Distinguished Alumni Awards, the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award and the Future Alumni Award.

Distinguished Alumni Award	Since 1985, the Distinguished Alumni Award has been granted to remarkable alumni who have achieved outstanding success in their careers and/or communities. Recipients include: astronaut Robert Thirsk; JAVA architect James Gosling; a trailblazer in Alberta's legal profession, Madam Justice Patricia Rowbotham; and Mary-Wynne Ashford, a long-time advocate for nuclear disarmament.
Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award	The Graduate of the Last Decade Award was first given in 2003 and recognizes young alumni under 35 who have made an early impact. Four-time speedskating Olympic medalist, Kristina Groves was named 2011 GOLD recipient for her commitment to sport, community and the environment.
Future Alumni Award	The Future Alumni Award was handed out for the first time in 2009. Recognizing a current, full-time student who demonstrates great potential for outstanding achievements in their career or contributions to their community, this award will honour student excellence with an eye on future personal and professional growth.

Nomination criteria:
All University of Calgary graduates and full-time students are eligible to be nominated for the appropriate award (with the exception of alumni who are active politicians or those serving on the Alumni Association board of directors). Anyone can nominate a graduate for an Arch Award.
