Board of Directors
Your Alumni Association is led by a group of dedicated volunteers representing nearly every faculty on campus. The board also ensures the alumni voice is heard within other U of C stakeholder groups, with two representatives on the University's Board of Governors (appointed by the provincial minister of learning), one representative to the General Faculties Council and two representatives to the Senate.
Future alumni are represented on the board by the president of the Students' Union (or designate), and the president of the Graduate Students' Association (or designate).
The President of the Alumni Association is also a member of the University Senate as referenced in the Universities Act. As well, there is a representative of the Alumni Association appointed to each of the university's faculty councils.

President: Ken McKinnon, BComm'80 Ken is VP Legal Affairs and General Counsel at Critical Mass Inc., a Calgary-based company providing all aspects of interactive design, digital media planning and production. As a partner of Sundog Eyewear, Ken has helped grow the company to become a global leader in sports sunglasses market whose products are found in 7,000 retail outlets worldwide. A proud alumnus of the Haskayne School of Business, Ken was actively involved at the faculty level as a member of the School's Alumni Chapter Board of Directors, the Dean's Management Advisory Council and the U of C Senate. Ken was the 2007 recipient of the Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) Award.

Rob Alllen, BComm'82 Rob is IBM’s Vice President - Oil & Gas Sector for Canada. Based in Calgary, he works with C-Level clients to develop transformation solutions to achieve their strategic business objectives. Rob has nearly thirty years of progressive executive experience with IBM. He has deep international executive experience, having led client-facing sales organizations in Canada, Europe and the United States. Rob has been recognized for using proactive transformation and people-oriented management execution to build high-performance teams to serve client’s needs. Since graduating from the Haskayne School of business, he has earned executive program certifications from the University of Western Ontario, Harvard Business School and the Wharton School.

Lawrence Bailey, BA'04 Lawrence has built on an active student life by becoming involved with the Alumni Association immediately following Convocation--first on the Chapters and Branches Committee and now in his new role as member of the Board of Directors. He owns and operates a financial planning practice in Calgary and is passionate about affecting positive change and giving back to both the U of C and the Calgary community at large.

Paul Farion, BSc'71 Paul Farion is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Department and a member of the Bennett Jones Public Markets and Independent Power Practice Group. Paul has been served on the board in a number of capacities including President, General Faculties Council Representative and Senate.

Judy Hanson, BA'77, BN'79, MN'83 Judy Hanson is a nurse, educator, researcher and administrator. She was a member of U of C’s Masters in Nursing program’s first graduating class. Judy’s nursing career began with what was then the Calgary Regional Health Authority in 1983 and she held numerous positions until leaving Alberta Health Services in 2003. She is currently a sessional instructor with the Faculty of Nursing. As a proud alumna, Judy served as president of the Faculty of Nursing Alumni Committee from 2005 to 2010 where she worked on events and fundraising activities to support the nursing alumni’s graduate and undergraduate bursaries.

John Hickie, MD'91 John Hickie was a marine biologist before returning to medical school in 1988. Since graduating, John has practiced family medicine and urgent care and is currently involved in occupational medicine. John coaches cross-country skiing and soccer, and also enjoys cycling and whitewater kayaking. He has been a member of the Faculty of Medicine Alumni Committee since its inception several years ago.
John is also a Board of Governors representative. |

Dora Lam, Q.C., LLB'85 Dora is a lawyer. In addition to her active law practice, she is an avid volunteer in several community organizations. She is a governor of the Glenbow Museum and serves as honorary legal advisor to several charitable and nonprofit organizations in Calgary. She is married to fellow U of C graduate Dr. Richard Lam, MD'85. She joined the board during 1998/99.

Grant MacEachern, BA'93 Grant is a stockbroker with Macquarie Private Wealth and has been on the board since 1995, and served as VP University and Community Relations from 1998 to 2001. Grant is a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary Olympic and an advisor of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Russ Mackenzie, BSc'87 Russ Mackenzie has spent the majority of his career as a civil engineer with Stantec Consulting Ltd., working in land development in partnership with municipal and provincial government authorities and land development clients. For the past three years Russ has been the vice-president (Alberta South) with responsibility for the Environment, Buildings, Architecture, Transportation and Urban Land groups in southern Alberta. He is a volunteer for the U of C’s Engineering Internship Advisory Council and a member of the Engineering Associates Program.

Bonnie MacRae-Kilb, BPE'83 Bonnie is a Calgary-based interior designer who remains active as an athlete, coach and mentor. Twice a University of Calgary athlete of the year, Bonnie was a three-time first team all-Canadian volleyball player and a member of the Canadian junior and senior national teams from 1977 to 1986. She was inducted into the Dinos Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2007, Bonnie and her family established the Bonnie MacRae-Kilb Women's Volleyball Award endowment, providing tuition support to a female U of C volleyball team member. She plays masters volleyball and tennis on the Canadian and American circuit and coaches and officiates youth volleyball with her husband, Brad.

Thomas McGovern, BA'93 Tom is a client partner focusing on organizational effectiveness and leadership development for the Canadian consulting division of the Franklin Covey Company. He has served on several philanthropic and fund raising boards, been a panel author on managing customer relationships and has been recognized several times, for outstanding national community service. He and his wife Lisa (née Luciani), BA'92, met at the University of Calgary and have two daughters. He joined the board in 2001. Tom is also a Senate representative.

Trevor Sawatzky, BComm'04 Trevor is an asset manager for GWL Realty Advisors where he is responsible for a portfolio of office and industrial properties in Calgary and Winnipeg. Trevor is an active alumnus as a mentor in Haskayne's Enbridge Mentorship Program and he founded a scholarship for students who are actively involved in student life. He currently volunteers as the chair of the Breakfast Committee and as a member for the Developing Leaders Committee for NAIOP Calgary. In his spare time, Trevor loves to indulge in sport--distance running, hockey, soccer, volleyball, squash and snowboarding are some of his favourites.
