Transfer credit for courses completed at other institutions may be awarded to the extent that such courses are applicable to the student's degree program at the University of Calgary.
Many faculties have indicated an overall time limit in which a degree is completed and the maximum amount of transfer credit which may be granted. Most undergraduate faculties require at least half of the degree to be completed with courses offered by the University of Calgary. Please refer to the University of Calgary Calendar for information.
Students attending colleges or institutes of technology in Alberta should consult the Alberta Transfer Guide for information about specific transfer arrangements.
Transfer credit is permitted for courses completed elsewhere with a "D" grade or a grade of 50% or higher. However, students should refer to the University of Calgary Calendar for each faculty's specific regulations regarding the number of "D" grades allowed and any other restrictions.
The University of Calgary will normally allow transfer credit for courses taken at accredited colleges and institutes outside Alberta if such courses are acceptable to the universities in that province, and if determined to be credit appropriate to a specific degree program at the University of Calgary.
International students: Applicants who present transcripts from accredited post-secondary institutions outside Canada must provide our office with copies of course outlines or syllabi that have been verified and sent directly to our office by the institution attended. Course outlines must included the following information for each course attempted: detailed list of topics covered, list of textbooks used, grading practices, number of weeks of attendance (excluding examination period), and number of lecture, tutorial and laboratory hours. After an offer of admission has been made, transcripts and course outlines will be reviewed to determine if any transfer credits may be awarded.
