"Residence is more than just a place to sleep for eight months or the year, it’s a place you can call home. Unlimited friendships, memories and support from other students and staff are never more than a footstep away!”-
- Pharryn Molyneaux
Year after year students choosing residence at the University of Calgary connect with other students that change their lives. Now it’s your turn. All you have to do is apply.
You’ve got a guaranteed home on campus! If you are entering your first year of undergraduate study, have recently completed high school and are under the age of 21 as of September 1, 2010, we have a guaranteed space in residence for you. You’ll need to complete your residence application by April 30, 2010 to get your guaranteed spot.
Living in residence means you’ll get great opportunities to learn, have fun and connect with other students. There are tons of ways for you to get involved and meet people. But most importantly, you’ll feel more connected with your campus and your university experience then you will living off-campus. Residence is more than just a place to live – this is where you will make life-long friendships, get a ton of support, take on important leadership roles, and realize that you belong to an outstanding university community.

Kananaskis and Rundle Halls are our first year buildings, where about 700 students live in fully furnished single and double rooms. Each of our residence rooms contains a single bed, desk and chair, built-in bookshelves, dresser and closet for each student. You’ll be on a floor with three wings; each wing has between 11 and 22 students, full service washrooms, storage room and a room with a sink and card operated laundry.
The doors to your building will be locked 24 hours a day and various entrances are monitored by cameras. In addition, we have highly trained staff on duty to assist with emergencies, provide community building communities and connect you to the many resources on campus.
Once you have lived in traditional residence for one year you will be able to apply for apartment style residence the following year. There are four undergraduate apartment buildings with furnished studios, one bedroom, two bedroom and four bedroom apartments.

To get your guaranteed space in residence, you’ll need to complete the online application at www.ucalgary.ca/residence between January 15th, 2010 and April 30, 2010, and pay a $50 application fee.
Most of our students live in double rooms in their first year. You’ll find out your building, room and roommate assignment at move-in day in September. If you want to be placed with a specific roommate, you must both mutually request each other on your applications.
“Living in residence is definitely the best way to connect to other students, the University campus, and the Calgary community as a whole. It takes hardly any time at all to feel like you've found a family - a group of individuals with whom you share an amazing sense of closeness and belonging. The bonds formed in residence are incredibly strong, and the kind that will surely last a lifetime. My time in residence has taught me so many important lessons and really contributed to who I am today, and who I intend to become in the future.”
