Experiences Outside the Classroom

CO-OP AND INTERNSHIP

Our Co-operative Education and Internship program allows students in certain degree programs to get a head start on their career while they are completing their degree. You’ll graduate with 12 to 16 months of degree-related work experience that you can put on your resume – experience that may give you the edge above the many other graduates who are applying for the same position that you are.

As a co-op/internship student, you will:

  • Work in a full-time degree-related job where you’ll earn a salary
  • Develop valuable marketable skills that are desired by employers today
  • Gain industry contacts while you’re still in school
  • Experience and explore different job choices, allowing you to discover career choices for yourself
  • Potentially travel by working throughout Canada and internationally

Co-op and Internship work terms are done separately from your time in the classroom, so you’ll be adding a year to 16 months to your degree program. For more information on Co-op and Internship, visit the Career Services website.

SERVICE-LEARNING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Service-Learning program at the University of Calgary allows students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they’ve acquired inside the classroom to their communities. You’ll be making a contribution to your community while discovering how your academic learning relates to social issues.

You can begin involvement with the Service-Learning program as early as your first year. For more information on Service-Learning and Community Engagement at the University of Calgary, visit our website.

CO-CURRICULAR RECORD

The first program of it’s kind in Western Canada, the Co-Curricular Record is an official university-sanctioned record that documents your extra-curricular activities on campus. When you graduate from the University of Calgary in four years, you’ll have a Co-Curricular Record that you can use to supplement job interviews, graduate school applications and more.

Receiving a Co-Curricular Record is as easy as getting involved on campus. Whether you volunteer with an office on campus or become involved in leadership in a club, you can have your activities documented on your Co-Curricular Record.

Learn more about this program at the Co-Curricular Record website.
