Italy is a country saturated by history and culture and the birthplace of famous artists, scientists and explorers who shaped the world we live in today. Italy has always been an exporter of culture since its beginning in Roman times and continues today, holding more than 60% of the world's art treasures. Along with the popular foods North Americans know and love, household personalities such as Michelangelo, Dante, Vivaldi, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo and Rita Levi-Mantalcini are instantly recognized and all Italian.
You'll learn Italian and as you do exciting opportunities in Italian fields will be opened for you, such as the culinary arts, music, design, fashion, manufacturing, electromechanical machinery, shipbuilding, space engineering and transportation equipment. You will be able to travel and explore the country with ease, experiencing its many landmarks (the Coliseum!) and appreciating one of the world's most robust economies and cultures.

Having a high level of confidence with your abilities in a second language is becoming increasingly important in our multicultural world. With a BA in Italian your skills will help set you apart when you embark on your chosen career path. Additional Help: Enhance your language acquisition by practicing your language skills outside the classroom. Visit the Il Circolino Language Centre on campus and put into practice the concepts you are studying!
According to your previous knowledge of the Italian language, you will start your studies at a level which is best suited to your skills. Students with no prior education in Italian can begin at an introductory level, while those who have studied Italian before can work with the department to ensure they are placed in the appropriate level of classes.
You are encouraged to explore a variety of option courses in your first year that will compliment your studies in Italian. You are encouraged to take courses from the faculties of Communication and Culture, Fine Arts, Science or Social Sciences. For example, you may wish to take a course that allows you to explore an interest in astronomy or politics. You could also take a Computer Science course to gain computer skills that employers love seeing on student’s résumés.
