The Faculty of Fine Arts is committed to promoting the values of creative expression and scholarship through excellent academic programs in Visual Studies, Dance, Drama and Music, supporting outstanding research and enhancing community leadership. The curricula of the Faculty of Fine Arts are balanced between the requirements of artistic attainment, scholarly discipline, and features distinctive to the University of Calgary. This balance of creativity, research and institutional character cannot be found elsewhere.
The following degree programs are offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts:
In conjunction with the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Fine Arts offers five-year combined degree programs leading to the BFA (Visual Studies)/BEd (Master of Teaching), BFA (Drama Education)/BEd (Master of Teaching, or a BMUS (Music Education)/BEd (Master of Teaching).
In addition, the Faculties of Fine Arts and Humanities offer five-year combined BFA/BA and BA/BA programs.
Admission to all majors is limited. Therefore, all qualified applicants may not be admitted.
To be considered for admission to the Faculty of Fine Arts, applicants are required to present the appropriate high school subjects and a competitive average.

Visual Studies: In addition to an application for admission to the University, admission to Visual Studies is based on an assessment of the applicant's portfolio and statement.

Music: In addition to an application for admission to the University, an audition is required of applicants to the Bachelor of Music program.
Students will be contacted with a specific date and may audition only once. Previously accepted students who are reapplying for admission may be required to re-audition in order to determine if the previous level of attainment has been maintained. Applicants living more than 150 km from Calgary may submit a video or audio tape. Late applications will not be considered.
Applicants are required to have Harmony 3 from the Royal Conservatory, or equivalent. If not, a theory diagnostic examination must be written on the day of the audition.

Dance: Applicants will be expected to attend an audition where they will be required to participate in two or three dance classes that include dance technique and structured improvisation. Attendance at the audition is strongly recommended; students who cannot attend in person must request permission from the BA Dance Committee to submit video taped audition. Forms are available on the Fine Arts website.
The auditions will take place during the first week of March (exact dates to be announced). All applicants to the BA Dance program must audition in order to be considered for the program, and all applicants must plan to attend both days.

Students who wish to minor in Dance while majoring in another program do not have to audition.

Drama: There is no audition requirement for admission to the BFA Drama program. A minor in Drama may be declared without an audition.

Only students who audition in March will be eligible for Department of Music scholarships.
Applicants living more than 150 km from Calgary may submit a CD recording. If a CD is submitted, the student may be required to perform a live audition upon arrival.

Holders of approved undergraduate degrees who wish to enrol in a degree program offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts must complete at least five full-course equivalents before they may be recommended for the second bachelor's degree (courses extra to the first degree may be counted in fulfillment of this requirement). The requirements for the second degree must be completed within eight calendar years from the date of initial registration in the program.
