University of Calgary

Before You Apply

Before you start your application to the University of Calgary, there are a few things that you can check out in advance to make the application process go smoothly

1. Find out what the application deadlines are.

Most programs accept applications only for the Fall term, but deadlines depend on the program. Check deadlines carefully to make sure that you're considered for the programs of your choice.

2. Explore the program offerings at the University of Calgary.

Programs from Accounting to Zoology are available at the University of Calgary. Learn about all the possibilities and then narrow down your selection. When you complete the application for admission, you'll be asked to provide your first and second choices.

3. Make sure that you meet the minimum admission requirements.

Check the admission requirements. Programs have minimum requirements which applicants must meet in order to be eligible for consideration of admission. Applicants who meet the minimum admission requirements are considered for admission on a competitive basis. As there are limited numbers of positions for each faculty/program, all qualified students are admitted in order of academic achievement. In addition, the University of Calgary has two broad-based admission policies. Under the Diverse Qualifications Admission Policy, excellence outside of academics and/or ability to overcome significant hardship is considered. Under the Aboriginal Admission Policy, aboriginal ancestry is considered.

4. Meet the English Language Proficiency requirement.

The primary language of instruction at the University of Calgary is English. To enable academic success, students are required to satisfy this requirement.
