At the U of C we have teams in Basketball (M/F), Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Hockey (M/F), Soccer (M/F), Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball (M/F) and Wrestling, giving you the chance to get in the game.

If you’re an athlete, you'll thrive at the U of C with Dinos Athletics. Our students are world-class athletes who train in our Olympic Facilities, a legacy left behind from the 1988 Olympics. It pays to train a the U of C; keep your eye out for our students who competed in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, and will be participating in the Vancouver 2010 games. With a strong athletic awards program and many championships under their belts, the Dinos are an integral part of campus life and spirit – join us in roaring our Dinos into victory.

You can try out

You can try out for the U of C Dinos! With 101 Canada West conference titles and 34 national championships to our credit in just 37 years, the University of Calgary’s athletic program is one of the strongest in the country. The Dinos have access to world-class training venues that attract Canada’s national and international athletes.

Initial team meetings and tryouts occur in September with the exception of football, which begins in August. All students who wish to be eligible for athletic awards and scholarships need to make the team and be nominated by the Director of Athletics. Varsity sports at U of C include: men's and women's basketball, golf, hockey, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field/x country, volleyball, and wrestling, as well as men's football and women's field hockey.

Interested in team sports?

The Health & Recreation Centre is also responsible for organizing the intramural sports program. Sign up a team or join as an individual. There are more than 50 leagues to choose from, with both competitive and recreational divisions. The Health & Recreation Centre also sponsors a variety of sport clubs, which give you the opportunity to meet people, learn new skills and stay active.

Calgary’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains provides students with countless outdoor opportunities and chances for adventure. Try kayaking and mountain biking, learn how to sail, go fly fishing, find out about avalanche safety, go mountaineering or backcountry skiing or try your hand at paragliding. The Outdoor Centre can help you prepare for your next outdoor adventure with instructional courses and programs, equipment rentals, repair and maintenance services. The Centre, the largest university outdoor program and rental shop in North America, offers high-quality gear at a reasonable price. Students receive a 10% discount on equipment rentals.
