After You Apply: How Your Application will be Handled

1. Before Evaluation

  • Within 1-2 business days, you will be e-mailed a note which acknowledges receipt of your application and informs you of your University Identification number and any other information that is necessary to process your application.
  • Students should check their application status on-line by signing on to the myUofC portal:
    • signon to the myUofC portal at: https://my.ucalgary.ca/ using the eID you selected when you submitted your Application for Admission,
    • in your online Student Centre check your To Do List and Application Status for any updates to your file.

2. Evaluation of Application

When all documents in support of your application are received, the Recruitment and Admissions Office will evaluate your academic record to determine if basic faculty/program admission criteria have been satisfied and to calculate your High School Average and/or Transfer Admission GPA in accordance with the competitive admission criteria. The faculty/program may require additional criteria to be satisfied so please ensure that you are aware of these criteria and that they are completed by the specified deadline dates.

Please do not send your original documents to the University of Calgary. All documents received become the property of the university and will NOT be returned. If you have your own original transcripts, you may wish to provide us with photocopies which are normally acceptable for evaluation purposes. If you are admitted, we will require official transcripts to be sent directly from the issuing institution to the Recruitment and Admissions Office.

  • You will be considered for your first program choice and may be offered admission.

    * Depending on your admission average and/or GPA, your application may be placed on a waitlist until it can be determined if there are available positions in the program. All admissions are on a competitive basis. You may continue to check your online Student Centre to monitor your admission status. Official notification of your admission status will also be made in writing.

  • High school applicants who are not offered admission to their first program choice by June 1st will automatically be considered for admission to their second program choice. **Regardless of whether an offer of admission is extended or not to the second choice, high school applicants will be automatically reconsidered for admission to their first program choice when transcripts are received showing final grades for all courses attempted. The deadline for transcripts is August 1st.
  • Transfer Students who are not admitted to their first program choice will be considered for their second program choice. ** The deadline to submit transcripts is June 30th (May 15th for Bachelor of Education After Degree program).

Offers of admission will be made as quickly as possible and continuously throughout the year. It is anticipated that the vast majority of offers will have been made before August 1st. However, you are encouraged to continually check your application status on-line by signing on to the myUofC portal to keep apprised of the status of your application and informed about any updates to the admitting averages. Any final decisions will also be conveyed in writing by mail.

International students applying from outside Canada or the USA will normally not be placed on a wait list. Instead, they will automatically be considered for their second choice.

*All offers are conditional pending receipt of official transcripts reporting final grades for all courses. Applicants must present the final Admission Average determined by their faculty/program or the admission offer will be rescinded.

**If a second choice is not indicated, it is assumed that you would be like to be considered for your first program choice only. If you would like to add a second program choice, please inform the Recruitment and Admissions Office no later than April 1st.

3. Notice of Admission and Registration

If you are admissible, an admission package will be sent to you. You will need to accept or decline your offer of admission through your online Student Centre; registration appointment times are assigned once the offer of admission has been accepted. You may wish to seek advice from your faculty to ensure you are registering for appropriate courses. You are advised to register at your earliest eligibility after you have been admitted.

Due to large volumes of applications received every year, a delay is not unusual. We appreciate your patience. If you have questions about the status of your application, please check the myUofC portal or call our office at (403) 210-(ROCK)7625.
