Supervisor-Student Relations

Most graduate students will experience ups and downs with regards to their relationships with their supervisors. However, disagreements and conflicts often lead to breakdowns of this key relationship if left unattended with unintended negative consequences for the graduate student. As no other relationship is more important than the relationship you develop and nurture with this person it is important that you address issues and situations as they develop before they get beyond your control. The University Ombudsperson can help identify, address and hopefully remedy conflicts you may have with your Graduate Supervisor.

Academic Issues and Appeals

The GSA Ombudsperson can assist you with term and final grade reappraisals, appeals of academic and non-academic violations and other issues affecting your academic progress at the University.

The GSA Ombudsperson also:

  • Provides a confidential environment in which students can discuss issues, problems or concerns.
  • Suggests approaches and strategies for addressing and managing supervisor conflicts.
  • Provides general information about University resources, rules, and procedures and students' rights and responsibilities.
  • Works with students to identify problem-solving strategies for resolving their concerns.
