Upcoming Requirement for Completion of Ethics Training
November 28, 2011
Submitted by Sharon Van Oort, Manager, Research Compliance
Ethics Support and Compliance, Research Services, University of Calgary
The University of Calgary will soon be implementing a new training tool for graduate students conducting research with human participants. The Course on Research Ethics (CORE) tutorial has been launched with the release of the updated Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). The TCPS 2 outlines minimal ethical guidelines for research involving human participants, and is used as the basis for ethics review.
Please note that as of January 2012, all graduate students conducting research with human participants will be required to submit a CORE tutorial certificate when applying for ethics certification at the University of Calgary; this will be a requirement of both research ethics boards on campus (i.e., the Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board (CFREB) and the Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board (CHREB)).
Please see the attached document for a more detailed overview of this new training requirement. Information and links to the online tutorial can also be found on the Research Services website at:
