Upcoming registration and fee deadlines

Friday, Jan. 20 is the last day to drop winter term half courses. No fee refunds will be given for these courses after this date.

Monday, Jan. 23 is the last day to add or swap winter term half courses. If you would like to register for a course that is currently full, look for more spaces to open up this weekend. Remember that you cannot drop courses that you register for after Friday, Jan. 20.

Friday, Jan. 27 is the deadline to pay your balance of fees for winter term. Paying your fees online is a quick and easy option; visit the Enrolment Services website for more information.

Cashiering wickets in MacKimmie Library Block will be from 9:30 a.m. ­ 4:00 p.m. until Friday, Jan. 27. Cheques can be dropped off without waiting in line. Please ensure all cheques are made payable to the University of Calgary, are dated properly and have your ID number on them.

Winter awards disbursement

Winter disbursements for award recipients have been applied to your tuition and fees. You can check the posting of your award value to your tuition and fees by visiting your Student Centre (Go to Finances \ Other Financial \ Payments).

If the value of your award(s) is more than your outstanding tuition and fees, the excess award funds will be deposited to your bank account on February 24. If you have not done so already, please provide your banking info through your Student Centre. Instructions for students.

A number of scholarships are now open for application, including the Dr. Gary McPherson Leadership Scholarship, and the Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership.

Recognizing excellence in student leadership

Nominations are now open for 2012 President's Award. This award recognizes graduating students (undergraduate or graduate) who are outstanding student leaders. Up to five awards are given at June convocation.

Building student leadership through Student Activities Fund

The Student Activities Fund is a new collaboration between the Students' Union Quality Money program and the University of Calgary. The fund will disperse up to $65,000 every year to qualifying students.

Undergraduate and graduate students‹as individuals or in groups‹are invited to apply for funding. Applications will be considered for travel, conferences, projects or other activities that will build their leadership potential, and align with both their educational and professional development goals.

PURE funds academic passions

Last summer, undergraduate student, Zain Jinnah explored his academic passion for human rights in the Middle East. He immersed himself in foundational policy documents, scholarly treatises, legal documents and United Nations reports in his quest for a deeper understanding.

If you are interested in pursuing a research project this summer, the Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE) provides financial support to undergraduates to conduct research for 8, 12 or 16 weeks between May and August. The deadline to apply for PURE funding is Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.

The Centre for Community-Engaged Learning is looking for 10 volunteers to join us on an eye-opening Day of Service at the Mustard Seed. On Thursday, Jan. 26 from 4-9 pm, we will be preparing and serving dinner for some of Calgary's homeless at the Mustard Seed's downtown location.

Presentation anxiety workshop

If you struggle with class presentations required as part of your course work, consider attending the SU Wellness Centre's presentation anxiety workshop. The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn and practice skills and strategies to manage the anxiety you experience when doing presentations. Workshop runs Mondays, Feb. 6, 13, 27, and March 5.

Book a workroom in the TFDL Learning Commons and use the collaborative software tool Teamspot (TM). This software is easy to use and allows instant exchange of information, common sharing of any documents and much more. Do you need to upgrade your courses and/or final grade for acceptance into the faculty of your choice? It's not too late to register for a Continuing Education Academic Prepration course. We offer everything from Math and English to Bio/Chem/Physics. Space permitting, you can still register up to the end of the second week of classes so don't delay!
